Dr. Kurtzberg is an internationally renowned expert in pediatric hematology/oncology, pediatric blood and marrow transplantation, umbilical cord blood banking and transplantation, and novel applications of cord blood in the emerging fields of cellular therapies and regenerative medicine. Dr. Kurtzberg serves as the Chief Scientific Officer and Chief Medical Officer for the Robertson Clinical and Translational Cell Therapy Program, Director of the Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant Program, Director of the Carolinas Cord Blood Bank, and Co-Director of the Stem Cell Transplant Laboratory at Duke University. Her clinical interests include: Umbilical cord-blood transplantation; nucleoside therapy; T-cell ALL; asparaginase; ITP; aplastic anemia; BM and UCB transplantation; growth-factor therapy; hematopoiesis; transplantation therapy for inborn errors of metabolism, immunodeficiency syndromes, congenital marrow-failure syndromes, and hemoglobinopathies; cell therapy for acquired and genetic brain injuries.
